New Items at the Lane House

The society would like to thank the Don Hamlin family for their donation of a pre-1896 German made copy of a Stainer Fiddle and bow. Stainer was one of the best fiddles made.  You can see teh violin at the Lane House.   We would also like to thank Don Ollivant family for their donation of  a rifle which belonged to  Aaron Rose.  The rifle will be on display at the Christmas open house in December. Also, on display, courtesy of the Douglas County Museum will be a walking stick that was presented to General Lane from President Franklin Pierce.  The cane was made from wood used in the USS Constitution.

Welcome New Members

Lori Okel, David & Amy Hopkins, Debbie Levings, Lois Rugraff, Joy Rich, Paul Demers, Karen Bratton, Gerald & Susan Dukes, Leon  & Sandra Marical, and Mary Farrow.

And on a sad note we wish to remember our members who have passed away. Margaret Havens, Betty Zuck, Sidney Domenico, Victor Buenzle and Mary Ellen Fetter.

Debbie Levings, our newest board member, has been given a grant, with the help of the Douglas County Museum, for the repair of headstones at the IOOF and St. Joseph’s cemeteries on Douglas Avenue.  The Historical Society and the Genealogical Society are also participating.  the major work is being done by volunteer high school stuents from Phoenix School.  Debbie has commented on how this project has given many of the students a sense of Douglas County history.  They are dedicated workers with a sense of curiosity.  If you happen to be on Douglas Avenue and see the work party stop by and say hello.

Keep up the good work Debbie!!
